The Original Patty Company

OUR STORY

The origins of The Original Patty Company started in the 1960s when Oswald and Maureen Young immigrated to England. They set up a small family bakery in Manchester called Hot Bake and produced Jamaican Patties, a popular Jamaican street food. The patties were extremely popular and went down a storm with the local community.

Later on the Young family scaled up their production, building a bigger bakery in Wolverhampton, this time selling to food retailers around the country.

The Origins of the ‘Patty’

CELEBRATING OVER 50 YEARS

Being a melting pot of people from different cultures, the motto of Jamaica is ‘Out of many, one people’. When the English settled in Jamaica in the 17th century, they brought with them the Cornish Pasty. This was infused with chillies, seasonings and curry spices that were in the country and eventually evolved into the Jamaican Patty which we have today.

EXCITING TIMES AHEAD

We’re very excited with the increase in popularity of Jamaican food here in England and we’ll be doing a lot of work this year to make sure everyone knows about Jamaican Patties!
